Run Forest Run

We are a family of runners.  It's official.  I love it.  It makes me happy.  It's the one habit I've picked up in my adult life that has served me well.  In my observations, the people who learned to run and love it youngest in life (i.e. high school) are the most successful in a ton of areas not just running.

So, it makes my heart happy that Isa picked it up easily and loves Cross Country and Track.  Wyatt although not a eager runner is still decent in a sprint.  Issac loves the distances runs, and Kody is known on his baseball team for being the fastest base runner, especially considering he is the shortest.  Each time he rounds the bases, we'd hear murmurs in the crowd of look how fast that kid is.

Nothing showcases running more than the end of year jazz like Race for Education - our school's one fundraiser - and Track and Field Day at the middle school.  Issac tied for the most laps run on RACE day along with another boy and one little girl in the whole elementary school running 3.5 miles in about 30ish minutes.  They ran for 40 total, but had a Rita's Italian ice break.

Likewise on track and field day, the students can pick their events.  Wyatt, the not eager runner, will pick the shortest events the 50M, 75M, 100M races.  Well his teacher helped relocate him to pick up the 200M as well - the first year we did these.  And then each class has an A relay team and a B relay team.  The first four fastest run as the A team, the next four as the B team.  Well Wyatt's class had a no show and so lucky for him (insert his eye roll here) his teacher asked him to run on both relay teams.  He did great.  Plus with the start of his soccer career this fall, I'm hoping he becomes ever more of a runner.  Fingers crossed.

Concert Season

May and December provide me with weekly concerts.  No matter how great or not as great the technical music is, they still make my heart happy.   It's something about those mama eyes.  Plus, I realize that even if they aren't amazing yet, they someday soon will be.  Isn't that what practice is all about?

Middle Child Syndrom

When you have four kids, who is the actual middle child, and do birth order roles really happen?

Well I think if you asked me two middle kids, one would feel like the middle child in terms of neglect and the other would feel fine.  That being said...I have one girl and then three boys.  So the middle of the three boys is sometimes who is most ignored.  Even as I look through my facebook and blog, I see evidence of his lack of documentation.

So he participated, somewhat reluctantly, in our church's children's talent show with friends to Ripstick.  Note:  It turns out he is a little shy and reluctant to perform in general.  He did great and is cute to boot.  Can't wait to see what other fun adventures he stumbles upon.

Field Trip Season

It's just begun, well middle of May.  I love chaperoning them.  It's a great way to bond with my kids.  I love their teachers, their friends and so usually it's a good day.  We (both Travis and I) went to Rohrer's Quarry with Issac for 4th grade last week.  So much fun with both of us.

Then this week, I went to the Philadelphia Zoo with Kody.  What do you do in the Spring?

Sports, Sports, Sports

May is a weird kind of event.  Isabella is currently juggling three sports this month: track, swimming and marching band.  Despite those sports actually being three different seasons, in the month of May the converge.  Track is getting close to winding down, depending on how far their team goes.  Pre-season swim practice has started and try it on for size freshman practice for marching band has commenced.  That's just one child's activities and that's just their sports.

Meanwhile Kody is killing it in baseball.  He has shocked Travis who underestimated how truly great he is.  He's a batting pro and this last game killed it with another double bringing two runners in.  He's not so shabby fielding the ball and spends a lot of time alternating between 2nd base and short stop.

Issac will also be starting the preseason swim practice and I am just trying to keep it all straight and make it to the end of the year alive.  Wish me luck!

I Love To See...

the temple.  Our family does too.  It's such an important part of who we are and what we do and believe.  Isabella keeps her own recommend and so when Wyatt turned 12 in January we were excited for him to join more family temple trips.  So we went on Satruday, April 30th for the first time with both the kids to do baptisms.
It was awesome, it was amazing.  I hope this really leaves an impression with our kids about what is most important in this life, in eternity.  I think the smiles say it all.
